Suresh Raina Predicts RCB's Title Defense in IPL 2026
Raina Backs RCB for IPL Title Defense
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 6: Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has expressed his confidence in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) successfully defending their Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2026, commending their performance throughout the tournament.
Having clinched their first IPL title in 2025, RCB has showcased remarkable cricket in the ongoing 2026 season, currently sitting in second place on the points table with six victories out of nine matches.
During a discussion on JioHotstar, Raina emphasized that RCB stands a strong chance of retaining their title, highlighting their well-rounded team dynamics, defined roles within the batting order, and effective leadership from captain Rajat Patidar.
“I believe RCB can defend their title. Their current form and the way their bowling unit is functioning under Rajat Patidar's captaincy is commendable. It’s not solely about achieving massive scores of 240-250; each player in the batting lineup knows their responsibilities,” he remarked.
Raina also pointed out that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) are contenders in this IPL season, noting their exciting style of play and the contributions from emerging talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Riyan Parag, along with seasoned players Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi.
Currently, RR ranks fourth in the IPL 2026 standings with six wins from ten matches.
“Following RCB, I think Rajasthan Royals are making significant strides, 18 years after their inaugural title. Their fearless opener, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, along with Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi, are key players. It’s a youthful squad, but they are delivering an engaging style of cricket,” Raina added.
He also recognized the Gujarat Titans, who are in fifth place on the IPL 2026 points table with six wins from ten matches, as formidable competitors. Raina praised spinner Rashid Khan's recent performances and captain Shubman Gill's impressive batting, yet he still favored RCB as the top contenders overall.
“The Gujarat Titans are also hitting their stride at the right moment. Rashid Khan has been in great form, and Shubman Gill is maintaining a high strike rate. However, I still believe RCB has the best chance,” Raina concluded.
