Sunrisers Hyderabad Triumph Over Rajasthan Royals in Thrilling IPL Encounter
Sunrisers Hyderabad Secures Fourth Straight Victory
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - April 25: A remarkable performance by Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma, both scoring fifties, propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their fourth consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. They overcame Rajasthan Royals (RR) by five wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday.
SRH successfully chased down a daunting target of 229 runs with nine balls remaining. Despite a stunning century from RR's young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 103 runs off just 37 balls, SRH's batting depth and the return of captain Pat Cummins proved crucial. This chase marked the fourth-highest in IPL history and the highest ever in Jaipur.
In pursuit of 229, SRH had a shaky start, losing Travis Head for just 6 runs in the first over to Jofra Archer. However, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma quickly stabilized the innings, leading SRH to a solid 89/1 after the powerplay.
Kishan was particularly aggressive, scoring 74 runs off 31 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes. Abhishek Sharma complemented him well with a brisk 57 off 29 balls, featuring 11 boundaries and a six. The pair put together a formidable partnership of 132 runs off just 55 balls for the second wicket.
Although Donovan Ferreira dismissed Abhishek in the 10th over and Archer took out Ishan in the 13th, Heinrich Klaasen (29) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (36) ensured SRH remained on course for victory. Despite RR's bowlers, including Brijesh Sharma (2/44) and Jofra Archer (2/34), taking two wickets each, they could not prevent SRH from reaching their target in 18.3 overs.
This victory elevated SRH to third place in the IPL standings, boasting five wins from eight matches and a net run rate (NRR) of 0.815.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted an impressive total of 228/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to a sensational century from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a half-century from Dhruv Jurel.
Sooryavanshi's explosive innings of 103 runs came off 37 balls, featuring five fours and 12 sixes, while Jurel contributed 51 runs from 35 balls, including eight fours and a six. Their partnership of 112 runs was pivotal in setting a challenging target.
After SRH opted to bowl first, Sooryavanshi quickly made amends for his previous golden duck by hitting four consecutive sixes off Praful Hinge in the opening over.
Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted to support him but fell to Heinrich Klaasen for 10 runs. RR reached 40/1 in just over two overs.
Jurel took on Pat Cummins, hitting two fours in the fourth over, while Sooryavanshi continued his assault, reaching a 15-ball half-century with a flurry of boundaries. RR ended the powerplay at 76/1.
With spinner Shivang Kumar introduced, Sooryavanshi and Jurel kept the momentum going, adding 16 runs in the next over. They reached the 100-run mark in nine overs.
By the halfway mark, RR was at 112/1, with Sooryavanshi on 76* and Jurel on 25*.
Sooryavanshi continued to dominate, hitting two fours and a six in the 11th over, while Jurel reached his third fifty of the tournament shortly after.
However, Jurel's innings ended at 61 runs, caught by Nitish Kumar Reddy, leaving RR at 152/2.
Sooryavanshi reached his second IPL century in just 36 balls but was dismissed for 103 shortly after. RR was then 170/3.
Donovan Ferreira and skipper Riyan Parag continued the innings, but Parag fell for just 7 runs, reducing RR to 191/4.
In the 18th over, Ferreira hit a series of boundaries, helping RR surpass the 200-run mark. However, he was dismissed shortly after, finishing with 33 runs off 16 balls.
RR concluded their innings at 228/6, with Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja remaining unbeaten. Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs.
