Sunrisers Hyderabad Sets High Target Against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad's Dominant Performance
In the sixth match of the IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased an impressive batting display, led by Heinrich Klaasen's remarkable half-century, alongside strong contributions from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. This powerful performance allowed SRH to set a formidable target against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
After being invited to bat first, the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma quickly established a solid foundation, scoring 22 runs without loss in just two overs. In the third over bowled by Vaibhav Arora, they accelerated the scoring, amassing 21 runs and bringing the total to 43 runs without losing a wicket.
Abhishek Sharma continued to dominate, hitting spinner Varun Chakaravarthy for 25 runs in the fifth over, pushing SRH's score to 71/0. This figure marks the highest runs conceded by Chakaravarthy in a single over in T20 matches, matching a previous record set against KKR in 2019.
However, the opening partnership was broken in the next over when Kartik Tyagi dismissed Travis Head for 46 runs off just 21 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. At the conclusion of the powerplay, SRH stood at 84/1.
According to CricViz, this score ranks as SRH's third-best Powerplay total when batting first in IPL history, following their 124/0 against Delhi Capitals in 2024 and 94/1 against Rajasthan Royals in 2025.
By the end of the seventh over, Hyderabad had advanced to 98/1. The ninth over saw Blessing Muzarabani make a significant impact, taking two wickets and halting SRH's momentum. He first dismissed captain Ishan Kishan for 14 runs and then claimed the vital wicket of Abhishek Sharma, who scored 48 runs off 21 balls, featuring four sixes and four fours.
In the following over, spinner Anukl Roy added to the pressure by removing Aniket Verma for just 1 run, leaving SRH at 123/4 after ten overs.
Despite the setbacks, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen regrouped, guiding SRH to a total of 168/4 by the 15th over. The 18th over saw Kartik Tyagi concede 16 runs, allowing Hyderabad to reach a strong position of 200/4. However, in the next over, Vaibhav Arora struck back, taking two quick wickets, dismissing Nitish Reddy for 39 runs and Salil Arora for a golden duck.
Klaasen finished the innings with a solid 52 runs off 35 balls, including five boundaries, leading SRH to a challenging total of 226/8 in their 20 overs. For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani stood out with a four-wicket haul.
