A Tribute to Football at Puri Beach

Puri (Odisha) [India], July 19: Celebrated sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has crafted an impressive 8-foot sand sculpture of the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy at Puri beach. This artwork prominently displays the national flags of Spain and Argentina, accompanied by the message, “FIFA World Cup 2026 – Good Luck For Final,” in anticipation of the upcoming final match between the two nations on Monday (IST).


In addition to the trophy, Pattnaik has also sculpted a likeness of Lionel Messi, one of the sport's most revered figures, featuring the phrase “We Love MESSI.” The creation process involved nearly 7 tons of sand and the collaborative efforts of students from his sand art school.


In an interview, Pattnaik expressed that the sculpture was designed to extend good wishes to both Spain and Argentina ahead of the final. He noted the global excitement surrounding the match and emphasized that his artwork at Puri Beach serves as a heartfelt message to both teams.


“We wish both teams the best of luck for the FIFA World Cup final. This 8-foot-high sand sculpture of the golden trophy symbolizes the anticipation of who will ultimately lift it. Our special message, ‘Good Luck,’ is meant for both teams. The world is eager for this match, and with many tourists visiting Puri Beach, we wanted to create something memorable,” Pattnaik stated.


He further elaborated on his Messi sculpture, highlighting the football legend's impact on fans worldwide. “We created a sculpture of Messi to honor him, as he captivates audiences everywhere with his extraordinary talent,” he remarked.
