Gujarat Titans Fall Short in IPL 2026 Final

In New Delhi, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill expressed his sorrow following the team's defeat in the IPL 2026 final, stating they "came so close but couldn't cross the finish line" after a five-wicket loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The Titans faced a painful end to their title chase during the grand finale held in Ahmedabad on May 31.

Gill took to Instagram to share his feelings about the setback, emphasizing the importance of resilience and the lessons learned from the sport.

He wrote, "We came so close but couldn't get over the line. It hurts deeply, and the disappointment weighs heavy, but this game that we all love teaches us so much about life. One thing it’s taught me is that there is no defeat in losing, as long as we keep coming back and not give up."

The Gujarat skipper also expressed gratitude to fans, saying, "I want to thank each and every one of you who stood by us through the highs and the lows. Your energy pushed us to the very end."

In the IPL 2026 final, RCB batted first, and GT managed to score only 155 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 50 runs off 37 balls, while Nishant Sindhu contributed 20 runs. RCB's bowlers, Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37), consistently took wickets.

RCB began their innings strongly, with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 runs off 16 balls) and Virat Kohli.

Despite a spirited effort from GT, who reduced RCB to 132 for 5 at one stage, Kohli's unbeaten 75 runs off 42 balls led RCB to victory with two overs remaining. This win marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, including two Women's Premier League (WPL) titles.
