Shreyas Iyer Shines in PBKS Victory Over DC in IPL Showdown
Iyer's Stellar Performance Leads Punjab Kings to Victory
New Delhi [India], April 25: In a thrilling IPL encounter, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer showcased his exceptional chasing abilities against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday.
With KL Rahul already having set a remarkable record with his unbeaten 152, Iyer remained composed in a high-stakes situation, capitalizing on the strong foundation laid by openers Prabhsimran Singh and himself. He scored an impressive 71 runs off just 36 balls, hitting three fours and seven sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 197.
Since the 2024 season, where he elevated his status as a captain with a title win for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Iyer has excelled in run chases, amassing 692 runs in 15 innings at an average of 138.40 and a strike rate of 175.68, including eight half-centuries.
Only Virat Kohli, the legendary RCB player, has a better record during this timeframe, with 699 runs in 12 innings at an average of 99.85 and a strike rate of 151.95, along with nine fifties.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan praised Iyer's performance on social media, stating that after Kohli, Iyer rightfully deserves the title of 'chase master'.
After Virat Kohli, if anyone deserves the “chase master” tag, it’s Shreyas Iyer. Calm, composed, and clutch under pressure every single time.

In the match, after DC chose to bat first, a remarkable 220-run partnership between KL Rahul (152* off 67 balls, including 16 fours and nine sixes) and Nitish Rana (91* off 44 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes) propelled DC to a total of 264/2.
PBKS responded vigorously, with Priyansh Arya scoring 43 runs off 17 balls (two fours and five sixes) and Prabhsimran contributing 76 runs off 26 balls (nine fours and five sixes) during the powerplay. Shreyas Iyer's 71* off 36 balls, along with partnerships with Nehal Wadhera (25) and Shashank Singh (19*), led to a successful chase in just 18.5 overs, finishing with six wickets in hand.
