Shreyas Iyer's Impact on Punjab Kings

New Delhi [India] - May 18: Shreyas Iyer's transition to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) has emerged as one of the most compelling narratives of the IPL 2025 season. The former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has demonstrated exceptional leadership and performance in his new role. His influence has caught the attention of many, including former Australian captain and JioStar analyst Aaron Finch, who praised Iyer's smooth adjustment and commanding presence.

Finch remarked, “He has been outstanding, just like he was with KKR. Shreyas is an impressive young leader,” during a segment on JioHotstar.

“Leaving a championship-winning team must have been difficult, but his ability to maintain that leadership success in a different environment highlights his adaptability,” he added.

After guiding KKR to the IPL title in 2024, Iyer was unexpectedly released by the franchise before the 2025 auction. Punjab Kings seized the chance to acquire him for an impressive Rs 26.75 crore, a decision that is proving to be a brilliant move.

“It’s a fresh team and a new coach, yet he has adapted remarkably well,” Finch noted.

“His batting, particularly in away games, has been exceptional. Overall, he has excelled for the Kings, both as a player and a leader,” he added.

With Iyer's composed and confident leadership, the Punjab Kings have overcome their previous inconsistencies, discovering a renewed sense of purpose. As they strive for a playoff position, they will face the already-eliminated Rajasthan Royals in the intense heat of Jaipur on Sunday, marking a critical challenge in their playoff pursuit.

Punjab requires two more victories to keep their hopes alive for their first IPL title. Currently sitting in third place, PBKS will continue their campaign against the struggling Rajasthan, who are positioned second from the bottom in the points table.

Since the tournament resumed, Punjab has been without the Australian duo of Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis.
