On April 25, in a remarkable display of skill, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS), crossed the 4,000-run mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during a match against Delhi Capitals (DC).

Iyer reached this significant milestone while leading his team in a challenging chase of 265 runs. After a brief setback that saw PBKS at 145/3, he played a crucial role, scoring an impressive unbeaten 71 runs off just 36 deliveries, featuring three fours and seven sixes, with a striking rate of 197.22.

Throughout his IPL career, Iyer has participated in 140 matches and 138 innings, accumulating a total of 4,010 runs with an average of 35.48 and a strike rate of 136.02. His record includes 31 half-centuries and a personal best of 97 not out. Most of his IPL journey has been with Delhi Capitals, alongside a successful three-season tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), culminating in a championship win as captain.

This season, Iyer has been in exceptional form for PBKS, amassing 279 runs across seven matches and six innings, averaging 69.75 with a strike rate of 186.00, which includes four fifties and a top score of 71.

For PBKS, he has scored 886 runs in 24 matches and 23 innings, boasting an impressive average of 55.18 and a strike rate of 178.38, along with 10 fifties, marking a significant evolution in his T20 performance.

With this victory, PBKS remains unbeaten, securing six wins and one no-result, totaling 13 points. In contrast, DC sits in sixth place with three wins and four losses, accumulating six points. PBKS also set a new record by successfully chasing down 262 runs against KKR earlier in the 2024 season.

In the match, after DC chose to bat first, a thrilling partnership of 220 runs for the second wicket between KL Rahul (152* off 67 balls, including 16 fours and nine sixes) and Nitish Rana (91* off 44 balls, with 11 fours and four sixes) propelled DC to a total of 264/2.

PBKS responded vigorously, with Priyansh Arya contributing 43 runs off 17 balls (two fours and five sixes) and Prabhsimran scoring 76 runs off 26 balls (nine fours and five sixes) during a powerful powerplay. Shreyas Iyer's 71* off 36 balls, along with partnerships with Nehal Wadhera (25) and Shashank Singh (19*), led to a successful chase in just 18.5 overs, finishing with six wickets in hand.
