Shardul Thakur Joins Lucknow Super Giants as Injury Replacement
Shardul Thakur Signs with LSG
New Delhi [India] - Shardul Thakur, an experienced fast bowling all-rounder, is set to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a replacement for left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.
After going unsold in last year's mega auction, Shardul is currently with the LSG squad in Visakhapatnam. The team, led by Rishabh Pant, is gearing up to kick off their campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Monday.
Mohsin suffered a significant injury, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 31, according to the same report.
Having previously overcome a career-threatening injury post-IPL 2022, Mohsin managed to recover and participated in the last season. The report also mentioned that Shardul and Uttar Pradesh's Shivam Mavi have been training with LSG since the franchise's preparatory camp began in Lucknow.
Shardul has had a successful run in India's domestic circuit, amassing over 400 runs and taking 34 wickets at an impressive average of 21.67, which helped Mumbai reach the semi-finals of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
With injuries affecting LSG's fast bowling lineup, Shardul's addition comes as a timely boost. Besides Mohsin, the pace trio of Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep are also sidelined due to injuries and are currently recuperating at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. There is no official update on when they might return.
Mayank Yadav is recovering from a lower-back stress injury, while Avesh is dealing with knee niggles. Akash is also recovering from a stress injury in his lower back.
LSG Squad for IPL 2025 includes: Rishabh Pant (c), David Miller, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bisnoi, Abdul Samad, Aryan Juyal, Akash Deep, Himmat Singh, M Siddharth, Digvesh Singh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Akash Singh, Shamar Joseph, Prince Yadav, Yuvraj Chaudhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Arshin Kulkarni, Matthew Breetzke.
