SC Delhi Secures Dominant Win

Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 10: A stellar performance in the second half, spearheaded by Joseph Sunny, propelled SC Delhi to a convincing 3-0 win against NorthEast United FC during the Indian Super League 2025-26 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Friday.

This victory marks SC Delhi's second straight win of the season, elevating them to eighth place in the league standings with eight points, while NorthEast United FC drops to tenth with six points. Joseph Sunny earned the Player of the Match title for his impactful two-goal performance, as reported by AIFF Media.

NorthEast United FC's head coach Juan Pedro Benali made two adjustments to his lineup, reinstating captain Miguel Zabaco in defense and bringing in Ankith P for the attack. Meanwhile, SC Delhi, led by assistant coach Noel Joseph due to head coach Tomasz Tchorz's suspension, made one change, giving Paraguayan striker Julio Rivas a starting role.

The match kicked off with both teams displaying aggressive tactics. NorthEast United applied early pressure, with Jithin MS testing SC Delhi's goalkeeper Nora Fernandes within the first minute, and Bekey Oram's curling cross nearly catching him off guard, requiring a quick save. SC Delhi responded with attempts from Mohammed Aimen and Devendra Murgaokar, both shooting from distance.

Despite some promising plays from both teams, neither could convert their chances in the final third. Jithin consistently threatened the flanks for NorthEast United, while SC Delhi's defense, led by Alex Saji, remained resolute.

The first half concluded in a stalemate, with a crucial defensive play from Dinesh Singh of NorthEast United denying Aimen a chance to cross, leaving the score at 0-0 at halftime.

After the break, the pace of the game increased, with both teams showing more attacking ambition. Jairo Samperio, who came on at halftime, tested Fernandes from long range, while Aimen nearly found the net after a strong run into the box.

The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute by SC Delhi, thanks to a well-executed play. Aimen's keen vision unlocked the defense with a perfectly timed through ball to Joseph Sunny, who calmly slotted the ball into the far corner, giving SC Delhi a 1-0 lead.

Just four minutes later, SC Delhi doubled their lead through a moment of brilliance. Midfielder Abdul-Halik Hudu initiated the play with a lofted pass, and Sunny expertly timed his run, controlling the ball past Dinesh before finishing over the advancing Gurmeet Singh to make it 2-0.

SC Delhi continued to press, nearly scoring a third in the 73rd minute when Sunny turned provider for Sourav K, whose powerful shot was saved by Gurmeet.

The third goal came in the 80th minute following a fluid team move. Ousmane Fane surged forward from midfield, combining with Sunny, who then set up Aimen. The forward displayed remarkable composure, weaving through defenders before firing a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner, sealing the match.

NorthEast United pushed for a response in the final minutes, with Lalrinzuala Hauhnar forcing a save from Fernandes, but they could not find the net.

The final whistle confirmed SC Delhi's dominant 3-0 victory, marking their resurgence with consecutive wins in the league.
