Samson's Record-Breaking Performance

In a remarkable display of skill, Sanju Samson has made history as the first batter from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to score a century against the Mumbai Indians (MI). This achievement places him alongside cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Sanath Jayasuriya as one of the few centurions in the fierce rivalry between these two teams.

Samson reached this milestone during an IPL match held at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

This century marks Samson's second of the current IPL season, having previously scored his first against the Delhi Capitals on April 11.

Displaying exceptional form, he scored 101 runs off just 54 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries and six sixes, achieving a strike rate of 187.04. This performance also elevates him to joint fourth place on the all-time IPL century list, tied with KL Rahul, trailing only behind Virat Kohli (8), Jos Buttler (7), and Chris Gayle (6).

Following a stellar T20 World Cup where he was instrumental in India's championship victory, scoring 97, 89, and 89 in crucial matches, Samson faced a rocky start with his new IPL team.

After disappointing scores of 6, 7, and 9 in his initial three matches of the 2026 season, he rebounded with a century against DC, followed by scores of 48 and 7 in subsequent games.

Currently, Samson leads CSK in runs this season and ranks third overall, amassing 293 runs in seven matches with an impressive average of 58.60 and a strike rate of 178.65.

His outstanding century propelled Chennai Super Kings to a formidable total of 207-6 against Mumbai Indians, setting a challenging target of 208.
