Sanju Samson Faces Penalty for Slow Over-Rate

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 10: Rajasthan Royals' captain Sanju Samson has been imposed a significant fine due to his team's slow over-rate during their recent match against the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025.

The Royals suffered a heavy defeat, losing by 58 runs as they struggled to chase a challenging target of 218 runs. This loss marked their third defeat of the season, compounding Samson's troubles with the fine for the slow over-rate.

On Thursday, the IPL announced that Samson was fined Rs 24 lakh in accordance with Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, marking the second infraction for the Rajasthan team under this rule.

According to the IPL's statement, "Captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad."

Previously, the Royals faced a penalty for a slow over-rate against the Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati last month. During that match, Riyan Parag filled in for Samson, who was sidelined due to injury, and was fined Rs 12 lakh for the first offence of the season.

As this latest incident was the team's second offence under Article 2.22, Samson's fine was raised to Rs 24 lakh. Additionally, the other players in the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will incur fines of either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.

Despite winning the toss, Rajasthan's decision to bowl first proved detrimental as Gujarat posted a formidable score of 217/6. The Royals' batting lineup faltered, leading to their comprehensive defeat by 58 runs.
