Samson's Historic Achievement
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - On April 26, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper and batter Sanju Samson made history by becoming the 10th player to score 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
This remarkable milestone was reached during a match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) held in Chennai on Sunday.
Samson hit a four off Kagiso Rabada in the second over, marking the achievement.
With this accomplishment, he now boasts a total of 5008 runs from 180 innings, maintaining an average of 31.69 and an impressive strike rate of 140.59, which includes 5 centuries and 26 fifties.
He reached this landmark while playing in 185 matches across three franchises: Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, and Chennai Super Kings.
In terms of speed, he is now the third fastest player to reach 5000 runs, having done so in fewer balls than notable players like Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, and MS Dhoni.
Currently, Samson is CSK's top scorer in the 2026 IPL season, accumulating 304 runs at an average of 50.66 and a strike rate of 169.83, which includes two remarkable centuries.
In the match, CSK's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed significantly with a solid 74 runs, helping the team set a target of 158/7 against GT at Chepauk.
CSK aims to defend this score to secure their fourth victory of the season.
