Mumbai Indians Set New IPL Record at Wankhede
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 29: In a thrilling encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Ryan Rickelton achieved his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL), leading the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a remarkable score of 243/5 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Opening the batting, Rickelton scored an impressive 123 not out off just 55 deliveries, featuring eight sixes and ten fours, which helped MI establish the highest team total at this venue, surpassing the previous record of 240/4 set by RCB earlier this season.
Choosing to bat first, MI's opening pair, Will Jacks (46 runs off 22 balls) and Rickelton, capitalized on the favorable batting conditions, racing to 78 runs without loss by the end of the Powerplay.
Jacks showcased his aggressive style, hitting Harsh Dubey for 16 runs in the fifth over, while Rickelton followed suit, scoring 17 runs off SRH pacer Sakib Hussain in the next over.
The duo formed a solid 93-run partnership before Jacks was dismissed on the first ball of the eighth over by Nitish Kumar Reddy, marking SRH's first breakthrough. However, Rickelton continued to dominate, hitting two boundaries and a six in the same over, bringing MI to 110/1 after 8 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav (5) struggled to make an impact, falling to Eshan Malinga in the ninth over, leaving MI at 113/2.
Newcomer Naman Dhir (22) contributed to a 55-run partnership with Rickelton before being dismissed by Praful Hinge in the 14th over, with MI at 167/3.
Rickelton accelerated the scoring, amassing 14 runs in the 15th over and reaching his maiden IPL century in just 44 balls, as MI stood at 181/3.
Notably, Rickelton's score is now the highest individual total for MI, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya's 114* against CSK at this venue in 2008. He also became MI's fastest centurion.
Additionally, he is the second wicketkeeper to score a century for MI, following Quinton de Kock's achievement earlier this season against PBKS.
MI captain Hardik Pandya (31 runs off 15 balls) formed a 56-run partnership with Rickelton, hitting two fours and a six in the 16th over before being dismissed by Sakib Hussain in the penultimate over, leaving MI at 229/4.
Tilak Varma (7) fell in the final over to Praful Hinge.
Rickelton concluded MI's innings with a six and a four, propelling the team to a total of 243/5 in 20 overs.
