He acknowledged that the mounting pressure and his struggles with form had begun to impact his batting mindset. However, the latest match has restored his calm and confidence, leading him to believe that a substantial individual score is on the horizon. CSK's Strong Performance Against KKR
Chennai Super Kings achieved a convincing 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in their recent match. KKR remains winless, having lost four matches and one no result, placing them at the bottom of the points table. Meanwhile, CSK has moved up to eighth place with four points following this win.
Gaikwad shared his thoughts on the importance of this win, stating, "It feels great to finally be on the winning side after a long time. The pressure was weighing on me while batting, but after this game, I feel more relaxed. I’m in a good mental space and believe a big innings is just around the corner. As long as my teammates continue to perform, I’m confident I’ll contribute when it matters most."
Key Factors in CSK's Victory
The CSK captain expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, particularly in defending a total of 192 runs against KKR. He noted that a strong bowling power play was crucial, along with maintaining control over the required run rate throughout the innings.
Gaikwad remarked, "I feel good about our performance. We defended a competitive score, especially since the pitch changed significantly after the first few overs, becoming more conducive to spin. Initially, we aimed for a score around 220, but we adjusted our expectations to around 190 or 180, which proved effective. Our bowling power play was key, and we focused on keeping the run rate in check."
Bowling Unit's Improvement
He praised the CSK bowling unit for its improvement, stating that the players are beginning to understand their roles and match-ups better, which is enhancing their effectiveness over time.
Gaikwad noted, "The bowling combination is coming together nicely. Everyone is aware of their responsibilities, including which overs to bowl and the lengths to target. They are adapting well to the team's needs, and this gradual improvement is promising for us. We considered using Noor if we needed additional support, but we felt confident with our current setup, especially with Akhil's role as a power play bowler in the second innings."
