Royal Challengers Bengaluru Near IPL Playoffs as Kolkata Knight Riders Exit
Rain Disrupts Match, RCB Advances
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have taken a significant step towards securing a spot in the IPL playoffs, while the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have been eliminated from contention. This development occurred after persistent rain led to the cancellation of their match on Saturday, resulting in both teams earning a single point.
The rain, which began around 6 PM, continued without pause, preventing even the toss from happening. Officials ultimately decided to call off the match at 10:24 PM.
With this outcome, the Royal Challengers now hold 17 points from 12 matches. A victory in either of their remaining two games will guarantee their place in the playoffs.
Currently, they lead the points table, just ahead of the Gujarat Titans, who have 16 points.
RCB's upcoming matches include a home game against the already-eliminated Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23, followed by an away match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 27.
On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders' disappointing season has come to a close with this washout. They now sit at 11 points from 13 matches, making it impossible for them to qualify for the knockout stage, even if they win their final league match against Hyderabad, which would only bring their total to 15 points.
