RCB Triumphs in IPL 2026 Final

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 1: The Secretary of the BCCI, Devajit Saikia, extended his congratulations to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for securing their second consecutive IPL championship after a five-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final held in Ahmedabad.

Saikia also commended the remarkable 15-year-old talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, for his outstanding performances throughout the season.

Sooryavanshi, hailing from Bihar, had an impressive tournament with the Rajasthan Royals, amassing a total of 776 runs at an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30, making him the highest run-scorer of the season.

At just 15 years and 65 days, he made history as the youngest recipient of the Orange Cap, surpassing the previous record held by Sudharsan of the Gujarat Titans, who won it at 23 years and 231 days in 2025, and Shubman Gill, who set the record in 2023 at 23 years and 263 days.

In a statement to the media, Saikia remarked, “This season has been fantastic... I hope fans enjoyed the IPL, and congratulations to RCB for their back-to-back victories. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a promising player with a bright future ahead. The BCCI will support him in reaching the pinnacle of cricket.”

Regarding the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Saikia noted, “This is a significant challenge on the horizon. The Women in Blue are performing well, and I hope they can replicate last year's success by clinching the ODI title.”

BJP MP Anurag Thakur also congratulated the RCB team, led by Rajat Patidar, for their impressive win against the Titans on Sunday night.

Thakur stated, “I congratulate RCB on their second consecutive IPL victory. Although the match took place in Ahmedabad, numerous RCB fans were present to support their team. This victory is monumental in the realm of cricket... IPL stands as the premier cricket league, marking a significant achievement for the BCCI.”

In the IPL 2026 final, RCB opted to bowl first, restricting GT to a total of 155/8 in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar (50* off 37 balls, including five fours) and Nishant Sindhu (20 off 18 balls, with three fours) were the only players to surpass the 20-run mark. Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37) consistently took wickets.

RCB began their innings strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) and Virat Kohli. Although GT fought back, reducing RCB to 132/5 at one stage, Virat Kohli (75* off 42 balls, with nine fours and three sixes) led RCB to victory with two overs remaining.

This victory marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, which includes two Women’s Premier League (WPL) titles.
