Riyan Parag Reflects on Rajasthan Royals' First IPL Loss of 2026 Season
Rajasthan Royals' Captain Discusses Team's Loss
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] - April 14: Following their initial defeat in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag expressed that the outcome of the match is not his primary concern. The Royals faced a 57-run loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which halted their impressive four-match winning streak.
In a standout performance, SRH's newcomers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain each took four wickets, significantly contributing to their team's victory. Praful, aged 24, and 21-year-old Sakib, who replaced seasoned players Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, recorded impressive bowling figures of 4/34 and 4/24, respectively.
Parag emphasized his approach to the game, stating that he prioritizes learning from each match over fixating on the results. He mentioned, 'For me, the result is secondary. I focus on identifying positives and areas for improvement. Winning and losing are part of cricket, but my aim is to be as clinical as possible.'
He further elaborated, 'I don't typically view games in that light. I prefer to extract positives and negatives from each match. Winning or losing is just one aspect; I strive to avoid repeating mistakes and to perform consistently.'
Despite the loss, RR remains at the top of the IPL 2026 points table, with Punjab Kings being the only team yet to lose a match this season.
In the match, SRH batted first, scoring 216/6, with captain Ishan leading the charge with a remarkable 91 runs off 44 balls, supported by Heinrich Klaasen (40 off 26) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (28 off 13).
During RR's chase of 217 runs, they faced a disastrous start, losing five wickets for just nine runs in the first over, thanks to Praful's exceptional bowling. Although Donovan Ferreira (69 off 44) and Ravindra Jadeja (45 off 32) managed to form a partnership to boost the net run rate, RR was ultimately bowled out for 159, with Sakib Hussain also contributing with the ball (4/24).
