Lucknow Super Giants Face Challenges in IPL 2026

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India] - After a disappointing seven-wicket loss to Punjab Kings in their last group-stage match, Lucknow Super Giants' captain Rishabh Pant acknowledged the difficulties faced during the IPL 2026 season.

Pant emphasized the importance of accepting the defeat while focusing on future improvements and learning opportunities.

“It’s a tough situation; we need to take it on the chin and maintain our spirits. This season has certainly been a learning curve for us,” Pant stated.

He mentioned that the team believed their score was competitive but recognized the advantage of batting second on a favorable pitch.

“I think we posted a decent total. Batting in the second innings is easier, which is why teams prefer to chase,” he explained.

Pant also pointed out several positives from the season, highlighting standout performances from players like Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh, and Prince.

“As a unit, we want to focus on the positives. Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh, and Prince had excellent seasons. Mohsin is returning from injury, and Shami bhai has been a great asset. There are definitely many positives to take away,” he remarked.

Despite the unsatisfactory conclusion to the season, the LSG captain expressed optimism about the team's potential to return stronger next year.

“It’s been a long season, and we are committed to coming back even better next year,” Pant added.

Punjab Kings showcased a commanding performance, successfully chasing down a target of 197 runs against Lucknow Super Giants with ease.

Captain Shreyas Iyer led the charge with a remarkable unbeaten century (101 off 51 balls), while Prabhsimran Singh added a swift 69 off 39 balls, propelling PBKS to a solid finish and securing fourth place in the standings with 15 points.

Earlier, LSG had set a total of 196/6, thanks to a strong innings from Josh Inglis (72 off 44) and a quick 37 from Abdul Samad, despite consistent breakthroughs from Punjab's bowlers, including Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen. However, their total fell short as PBKS comfortably surpassed it with an over to spare.
