Rishabh Pant Penalized for Over-Rate Violation

In a recent IPL match, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant was fined ₹12 lakh due to a slow over-rate during their narrow 12-run win over the Mumbai Indians.

The IPL mandates that a bowling team must complete their 20 overs within 90 minutes. However, Pant's team fell behind after the 19th over, resulting in them having to field one less player outside the 30-yard circle.

According to a statement from the BCCI, this was Pant's first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, leading to the imposed fine.

Additionally, LSG player Digvesh Rathi has been fined 50% of his match fees for the second consecutive time for violating the Level-1 code of conduct in the IPL.

Rathi had previously faced a similar penalty for an excessive celebration after taking a wicket against the Punjab Kings. On Friday, he repeated his animated celebration after dismissing Naman Dheer from MI.

As this marks his second Level-1 offense under Article 2.5 this season, Rathi has now accumulated two demerit points, adding to the one point he received during the match against Punjab Kings on April 1, 2025.
