Rishabh Pant Faces Penalty for Over-Rate Violation

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh - On May 28, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was penalized for his team's slow over-rate, as reported by a media advisory from the IPL.

This incident marked the third violation of the season concerning the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding over-rate, resulting in a hefty fine of 30 lakh for Pant. Additionally, each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, faced fines of 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever was lower.

In the match itself, Lucknow suffered a disappointing six-run loss to RCB, concluding their IPL 2025 journey on a sour note at their home ground. With five wins from eight matches, their recent performance, which included only one victory in the last six games, eliminated them from playoff contention.

Stand-in captain for RCB, Jitesh Sharma, delivered an exceptional performance, leading his team to a six-wicket victory in this final group stage match of the IPL's 18th season.

Punjab Kings maintained their lead at the top of the standings, while RCB climbed to second place, securing a spot in Qualifier 1 against Punjab on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, now in third place, will compete against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday.

RCB achieved the third-highest successful run chase in IPL history, thanks to an impressive unbeaten partnership of 107 runs between Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma. This victory marked only the third instance of RCB successfully chasing a target exceeding 200 runs, with their six-wicket win representing the highest total chased in Lucknow.
