RCB's Dominance in IPL 2024

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have established themselves as a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, particularly with their opening partnership, which has proven to be exceptionally explosive.

As reported by CricViz, RCB has achieved fifty-plus opening stands on 12 occasions since the start of IPL 2024, the highest among all teams, showcasing their consistent performance in this lucrative league. These strong starts have provided a solid foundation for the middle order to build upon in various matches.

Historically, RCB's opening combinations have been known for their impactful partnerships, with the franchise recording 16 century-plus opening stands in IPL history, highlighting their aggressive approach right from the start.

A notable highlight was their recent achievement of a 100-run partnership in just 8.4 overs against the Mumbai Indians, marking it as the second-fastest century partnership in RCB's IPL journey.

The only faster instance occurred during Chris Gayle's iconic 175* innings against Pune Warriors India in 2013, where the century partnership was reached in just 7.5 overs, still the quickest in the franchise's history.

Match Highlights Against Mumbai Indians

In a thrilling match at Wankhede Stadium, RCB showcased an impressive batting display, scoring a massive 240/4 against the Mumbai Indians, fueled by explosive half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, and captain Rajat Patidar, along with a late surge from Tim David.

After being invited to bat first, RCB's openers, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, provided a rapid start. Kohli hit a six off Trent Boult early on, while Salt found boundaries right from the first over. The duo maintained a relentless scoring pace against both pace and spin bowlers, taking on Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mitchell Santner with confidence.

Salt was particularly aggressive during the powerplay, scoring 22 runs in one over against Santner, which included three sixes and a four. By the end of the powerplay, RCB was at 71/0, with Salt on 47 and Kohli on 22.

The opening partnership reached 120 runs in 10.5 overs before Shardul Thakur broke it by dismissing Salt for 78 off 36 balls, featuring six fours and six sixes, setting a strong base for a high total.

Kohli continued to anchor the innings, reaching his half-century off 38 balls, while RCB crossed the 100-run mark in just 8.4 overs, reinforcing their reputation for quick starts. Kohli's fifty included five fours and a six before he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya, leaving RCB at 185/2 in 14.4 overs.

Captain Rajat Patidar then shifted the momentum decisively in RCB's favor with a stunning counterattack, hitting a hat-trick of sixes and reaching his fifty in just 17 balls, scoring 53 off 20 balls with four boundaries and five sixes. His partnership with Kohli added 65 runs at a rapid pace, pushing RCB past 150 in just over 12 overs.

Even after the dismissals of Kohli and Patidar, RCB maintained their aggressive approach. Jitesh Sharma and Tim David ensured the scoring continued, with David contributing a powerful late cameo of 34 not out off 16 balls, including two fours and three sixes.

RCB concluded their innings at a commanding 240/4, with Romario Shepherd also remaining unbeaten. For the Mumbai Indians, wickets were shared among Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner, and Trent Boult, each taking one wicket but unable to contain the onslaught.
