RCB's Strategic Additions at IPL 2026 Auction

Abu Dhabi [UAE], December 17: Royal Challengers Bengaluru made significant moves during the IPL 2026 mini auction, securing eight crucial players. The highlight was the signing of Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for ₹7 crore, along with New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy, who joined for ₹2 crore.

The defending champions bolstered their roster further by acquiring left-arm pacer and lower-order batsman Mangesh Yadav for ₹5.2 crore, marking him as the fourth-highest uncapped Indian player signed on that day. Additionally, the franchise welcomed hard-hitting English wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox for ₹75 lakhs.

RCB also focused on youth development by bringing in 18-year-old Satvik Deswal for ₹30 lakhs. Deswal, who has been part of the RCB setup as a net bowler, showcased remarkable maturity at the crease and added valuable spin bowling options.

Moreover, the franchise added promising young all-rounders from the India U19 team, including Vihaan Malhotra, Vicky Ostwal, and Kanishk Chouhan, all acquired at their base price of ₹30 lakhs.

RCB's Head Coach Andy Flower expressed enthusiasm about acquiring Venkatesh Iyer, stating, “This is the second consecutive year we've aimed to sign Venky. We hold him in high regard, and it's fantastic to finally have him on our team. We've had discussions with him, and we appreciate his competitive spirit and leadership qualities, which are invaluable both on and off the field.”

Mo Bobat, RCB's Director of Cricket, added, “We targeted two experienced players of high caliber. Securing Venky at this price is a win for us, and getting Duffy at a bargain is a bonus considering his performance this year.”

Bobat reflected on the team's structure, noting, “We have a well-established team, and the auction was aimed at enhancing our depth and providing injury cover.”

Discussing the team's goals for the upcoming season, Bobat stated, “Our mission is to build a team we can be proud of, deliver the performances we aspire to, and achieve success on the field.”

He concluded by emphasizing RCB's auction strategy, saying, “We’re not just looking for bargains. Our approach is straightforward: come prepared with players in mind, set a budget, and if we can secure them for less, it’s a bonus.”
