RCB Sets New Records with Explosive Performance Against CSK
RCB's Dominance at M Chinnaswamy Stadium
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 5: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) showcased their batting prowess against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, achieving remarkable milestones in the process.
After being invited to bat first, RCB amassed an impressive total of 250 runs for the loss of three wickets. Despite early contributions from Virat Kohli (28 runs off 18 balls) and Phil Salt (46 runs off 30 balls), it was the explosive performances from Devdutt Padikkal (50 runs off 29 balls), Rajat Patidar (48 not out off 19 balls), and Tim David (70 not out off 25 balls) that propelled RCB to their formidable score.
The partnership between David and Patidar was particularly noteworthy, as they combined for 99 runs for the fourth wicket in just 35 balls.
RCB's innings featured a total of 19 sixes, marking the third-highest number of sixes hit by the team in an IPL match and the most ever against CSK, surpassing previous records held by KKR and RR.
With a score of 250/3, RCB recorded their third-highest total in IPL history, trailing only their scores of 262/7 against SRH in 2024 and 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013.
The unbeaten partnership of 99 runs between David and Patidar set a new record for the highest run-rate for an RCB partnership in IPL history, achieving an astonishing 16.97 runs per over.
David's eight sixes tied him for the second-highest number of sixes hit by a player batting at number five or lower for RCB, equaling AB de Villiers' record from 2014.
RCB's scoring rate was impressive, with 159 runs scored between the 11th and 20th overs, marking the fourth-highest aggregate in IPL history during this phase.
In the initial overs, RCB scored 51 runs for one wicket at a rate of 8.50 runs per over, followed by a surge to 102 runs for two wickets from overs 7 to 15 at 11.33 runs per over, culminating in a staggering 97 runs without loss from overs 16 to 20 at a blistering 19.40 runs per over.
Padikkal's return to RCB has been remarkable, as he scored a quickfire 50 runs off 29 balls, demonstrating his adaptation to the team's aggressive style since rejoining in the 2025 season.
The RCB middle order, featuring players like Patidar, Krunal Pandya, and Tim David, has been exceptional since the 2025 season, showcasing stability and a high strike rate of 170.02, the best among all teams.
With 75 sixes hit by the middle order, RCB ranks second in the league, highlighting their consistent performance and scoring average of 33.7.
