RCB Secures Victory Over LSG

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 15: A brilliant innings from Virat Kohli, along with significant contributions from Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma, propelled the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a convincing five-wicket victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. This win elevated RCB to the top of the points table following a dominant display.

Despite a brief resurgence from LSG, the costly bowling performance from Digvesh Rathi, who conceded 51 runs in four overs, ultimately shifted the momentum in favor of RCB.

In pursuit of 147 runs, RCB's innings began with Phil Salt and Kohli at the crease. Lucknow's Prince Yadav made an early impact by dismissing Salt for just 7 runs in the second over, bringing Devdutt Padikkal to bat.

Kohli, playing as an Impact Player, quickly took charge, hitting three boundaries off veteran bowler Mohammed Shami in the third over and adding 17 runs from Yadav's next over.

The partnership between Kohli and Padikkal flourished, leading RCB to a solid 60/1 at the end of the powerplay. However, Avesh Khan broke the partnership by dismissing Padikkal for 10 runs in the eighth over, allowing RCB captain Rajat Patidar to join Kohli.

Patidar wasted no time, attacking Shami with two massive sixes, pushing RCB to 86-2 after 10 overs. Avesh Khan then claimed Kohli's wicket for 49, marking the first time Kohli has been dismissed for that score in IPL history.

Jitesh Sharma entered the fray and made an immediate impact, scoring 22 runs off Digvesh Rathi in the 12th over. However, Prince Yadav struck back, dismissing both Patidar and Sharma shortly after, despite being hit for a six on his first delivery of the 13th over.

RCB's Tim David and Romario Shepherd then finished the match with 29 balls to spare.

Earlier, LSG struggled to reach a modest total of 146 runs against RCB, with Rasikh Salam Dar leading a disciplined bowling attack. Dar's standout performance included crucial breakthroughs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood provided essential support, preventing LSG from recovering from early setbacks.

After being put to bat first, LSG started steadily, reaching 22/0 in the first three overs before losing their first wicket in the fourth over. Rasikh Salam Dar dismissed Aiden Markram, who scored 12 runs off 8 balls, including a six.

The innings faced another blow when skipper Rishabh Pant had to leave the field after being struck on the elbow by a delivery from Josh Hazlewood during the fifth over.

RCB maintained tight bowling, restricting LSG to 35/1 at the end of the powerplay, their lowest score in that phase this season. LSG struggled to find their rhythm, recording 15 dot balls in the first six overs.

Hazlewood struck again, removing Nicholas Pooran for just one run, leaving LSG at 63/2 after nine overs.

As a partnership began to form, Krunal Pandya provided another breakthrough by dismissing Mitchell Marsh, who scored 40 runs off 32 balls, leaving LSG at 71/3.

Krunal then took his second wicket, dismissing Abdul Samad for a duck, marking his 100th wicket in IPL history, making him the sixth finger spinner to achieve this milestone.

By the end of the 15th over, LSG was at 112/4, still searching for momentum.

In the 16th over, Rasikh Salam Dar claimed his second wicket by removing Ayush Badoni, who scored 38 runs off 24 balls.

Skipper Pant returned to bat with his elbow heavily strapped, but his struggles continued as he fell for just one run, with Phil Salt taking a sharp catch.

With wickets falling regularly, LSG found themselves at 124/6 by the end of the 17th over.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two quick wickets in the 19th over, leaving LSG at 137/8. In the final over, Rasikh took two more wickets, bundling LSG out for just 146 runs.
