RCB Clinches Second IPL Title with Stellar Bowling Performance
RCB Triumphs in IPL 2026 Final
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - On June 1, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The success of RCB in the 2026 IPL season can be largely attributed to their exceptional bowling lineup, which has consistently delivered throughout the tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the pack with 28 wickets, followed by Rasikh Salam Dar with 19. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood contributed 15 wickets, while Krunal Pandya added 14 to the tally.
In the final match, RCB's bowlers showcased their skills by restricting GT to a mere 155 runs for 8 wickets. The pace trio of Rasikh Salam Dar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Josh Hazlewood were instrumental, taking three, two, and two wickets respectively. Rasikh's impressive figures of 3/27 in four overs, along with Bhuvneshwar's 2/29 and Hazlewood's 2/37, played a crucial role in limiting GT's score. Krunal Pandya also chipped in with a wicket, ensuring GT fell short of a competitive total, which RCB chased down in just 18 overs.
Devdutt Padikkal, an RCB batter, praised the bowling unit, describing their performance as 'unbelievable' and emphasizing their meticulous preparation and execution of strategies during team meetings.
Padikkal also commended Virat Kohli for his outstanding performance in the final, where he remained unbeaten with 75 runs off 42 balls. He noted that Kohli's experience instilled confidence in the team, alleviating any nerves during the chase. Padikkal remarked on Kohli's continuous evolution as a player over the years.
Jitesh Sharma, another RCB player, credited the team's leadership and support staff for fostering a positive environment that encouraged confidence during their title defense. He highlighted how Director of Cricket Mo Bobat shifted the team's mindset from merely defending their title to actively pursuing it, which significantly boosted the squad's morale.
Sharma emphasized the importance of focusing on a 'one-match-at-a-time' approach, concentrating on tactics rather than external pressures or expectations. He expressed optimism about aiming for a third title in the upcoming season.
In the final, GT batted first, managing only 155 runs in 20 overs. Washington Sundar was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 50 runs off 37 balls, while Nishant Sindhu added 20 runs. RCB's bowlers, particularly Rasikh Dar Salam (3/27), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/29), and Josh Hazlewood (2/37), consistently took wickets.
RCB began their chase strongly with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (32 runs off 16 balls) and Virat Kohli. Although GT fought back, reducing RCB to 132/5, Kohli's steady presence ensured RCB crossed the finish line with two overs to spare. This victory marks RCB's second IPL title and their fourth overall in Indian franchise cricket, including two Women's Premier League (WPL) titles.
