RCB's Captain Analyzes the Match Outcome

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 18: After a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar expressed that his team fell short by approximately 15-20 runs.

Patidar pointed to a significant collapse during the middle overs as a pivotal moment in the game.

During the post-match presentation, he acknowledged the strong opening partnership between Virat Kohli and Phil Salt but noted that the team could not build on that momentum in the middle overs.

“It was a close match, but I believe we were about 15-20 runs short. The start we had, particularly from Virat bhai and Salt, was promising, but after 12-13 overs, we lost wickets in quick succession, which put us at a disadvantage,” Patidar remarked.

He also mentioned that the pitch conditions were somewhat tricky at the beginning, making it difficult for the batsmen. “In the first innings, I would describe it as a bit tacky,” he added.

Despite the defeat, Patidar found a silver lining in the team's performance towards the end, stating that they managed to score crucial runs in the final overs.

“The way we finished in the last over is a positive takeaway for us,” he noted.

The RCB captain emphasized the need for clear execution moving forward, indicating that the team would work on addressing their mistakes throughout the lengthy tournament.

“I was discussing with the bowlers the importance of clarity in our actions. It’s a long tournament, and we will reflect on where we went wrong and make the necessary adjustments,” he concluded.

In a thrilling IPL match held in Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals managed to secure a victory on the last ball, defeating RCB by four wickets.

RCB batted first, scoring 175/8, with Phil Salt contributing a solid 63 runs off 38 balls. However, the DC bowlers, including Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel, each took two wickets to limit RCB's scoring.

In response, DC faced early setbacks at 18/3, but KL Rahul (57 off 34) and Tristan Stubbs (60* off 47) played crucial roles in stabilizing the innings with their half-centuries.

David Miller then capped off the chase with a quickfire 22 runs off 10 balls, sealing the win with two sixes and a four in the final over, leading DC to a total of 179/4 in 19.5 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout bowler for RCB, taking 3 wickets for 26 runs, including a triple strike during the powerplay, but ultimately, the team could not defend their total, allowing DC to climb to fourth place in the standings.

Brief Score: RCB – 175/8 (Phil Salt – 63 off 38 balls, Tim David – 26 off 17 balls, Axar Patel 2/18) lost to DC: 179/4 in 19.5 overs (Tristan Stubbs 60*, KL Rahul 57, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/26) by six wickets.
