Rajasthan Royals Triumph Over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 Opener
Rajasthan Royals Secure Victory Against Chennai Super Kings
Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 30: In the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a convincing margin of eight wickets. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad praised the impressive bowling performance of the Royals, which set the stage for their win.
The RR bowling attack, spearheaded by Jofra Archer who took 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs, along with Nandre Burger (2/26 in 4 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/18 in 3 overs), restricted CSK to a mere 127 runs in 19.4 overs.
In response, the Royals chased down the target in just 12.1 overs, thanks to a blistering 52 runs off just 17 balls from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, marking the second-fastest fifty for RR. He partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who contributed an unbeaten 38 runs, forming a solid 75-run opening partnership.
During the post-match interview, Gaikwad reflected on the challenging conditions faced by his team, particularly against Archer and the medium pacers, noting that the spinners also found assistance. He stated, “The conditions were tough at the start, especially against Jofra. The medium pacers made it difficult, and the spinners were getting help as well.”
Despite a shaky beginning, Gaikwad emphasized the importance of moving forward and preparing for their next match in three days. He remarked, “We could have batted deeper, but you never know what a good score is these days, so we had to keep pushing. It’s important to put this behind us and focus on the next game. We have a lot of young players, and while it was a nervy start, it’s good to have a game under our belts.”
In summary, the Rajasthan Royals showcased their strength in the IPL 2026 season opener, decisively defeating the Chennai Super Kings.
