Riyan Parag's Insights on the Match

New Chandigarh (Punjab) - Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag expressed confidence in his team's performance against Gujarat Titans (GT), stating that they set a competitive target. He noted that the pitch became more favorable for batting in the second half after the heavy roller was applied.

Parag observed that the surface initially provided good grip for slower deliveries, suggesting that a score around 230 would have been ideal, while 240 would have posed a significant challenge.

He acknowledged the importance of securing early wickets from their openers, which unfortunately did not happen, complicating the match for RR.

Gujarat Titans Secure Victory

Shubman Gill's captaincy and a stellar partnership with Sai Sudharsan propelled Gujarat Titans to a three-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League held in Mullanpur on Friday.

After RR batted first, they managed to score 214/6 in 20 overs, thanks to a remarkable innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 96 runs off 47 balls, complemented by Donovan Ferreira's quick 38 runs off just 11 balls.

In response, Shubman Gill's century (104 runs off 53 balls) and a significant 167-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan (58 runs off 32 balls) laid the groundwork for GT's successful chase.

Parag's Reflections on the Season

Post-match, Parag reflected positively on the Rajasthan Royals' season, highlighting the team's growth despite its youth. He mentioned that many had doubted RR's chances of qualifying, yet praised the young talents for their impressive performances, indicating that the team has a bright future ahead.

“To sum it up in one sentence, there were many positives. We weren’t expected to qualify, given that many players were young and inexperienced, but many youngsters performed well and can only improve from here,” he stated.

Praise for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Parag commended Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his strategic batting approach, emphasizing that he does more than just hit powerfully. He noted that Sooryavanshi carefully plans his innings and shot selection, expressing optimism about his potential to contribute significantly to the Rajasthan Royals' future successes.

“I can’t put it into words, there’s one way where you slog and score many runs. But he doesn’t slog; you could see his innings today – he calculates and plays his shots. I can’t say how, but hopefully, he will go on to do well in his career, do well for the Rajasthan Royals and win us a second title,” Parag concluded.

Sooryavanshi's Remarkable Season

Sooryavanshi continued to impress with another outstanding performance in a knockout match, scoring 86 runs off 47 balls, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. Throughout the season, he accumulated 776 runs in 16 matches, averaging 48.50 with a strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties.

This season ranks as one of the best in IPL history, with Sooryavanshi achieving the fastest 1,000 IPL runs in just 440 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Andre Russell.
