Rajasthan Royals Prepare for IPL Showdown Against Mumbai Indians
Rajasthan Royals' High-Performance Centre Boosts Player Development
Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 6: As the Rajasthan Royals gear up for their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Mumbai Indians (MI), performance coach Siddhartha Lahiri highlighted the significant benefits of their high-performance centre. This facility has been instrumental in enhancing the skills of emerging batting talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi and fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, enabling them to showcase impressive performances recently.
The Royals are looking to secure their third consecutive victory when they face the five-time champions MI on Tuesday. Meanwhile, MI is eager to recover from their recent defeat to the Delhi Capitals (DC). Suryavanshi has continued his strong form from the previous season, while Deshpande demonstrated his exceptional domestic performance by successfully defending 11 runs in the final over against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Lahiri emphasized the advantages provided by the high-performance centre, stating that it allows players to access training facilities and net bowlers year-round, which is crucial in a demanding cricket schedule.
“Our high-performance centre is a tremendous asset. Players often have busy calendars, making it challenging to find time for practice elsewhere. This facility allows us to facilitate their development effectively,” he explained.
“Vaibhav dedicates considerable time at our centre, where we offer various pitch types and numerous net bowlers. The practice he receives here is unparalleled. Regarding Deshpande, our analytics and coaching teams work closely together throughout the year to ensure players are confident and prepared for execution. If Deshpande wants to refine his yorkers, he can do so with just a pitch and no distractions,” he added. “This gives us a competitive edge, and we have been executing this strategy effectively over the past 8 to 10 months.”
In the current season, Suryavanshi has made a mark with 83 runs in two innings, averaging 41.50 and boasting a strike rate of 237.14, highlighted by a rapid 52 off 17 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His form carries over from a successful U19 World Cup campaign, where he scored 444 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 62.71.
Deshpande enters the tournament following a remarkable season, taking 38 wickets across various competitions, including 25 wickets in eight Ranji Trophy matches, making him Mumbai's second-highest wicket-taker. His only IPL appearance for RR featured a commendable three-over spell, conceding just 24 runs and claiming a wicket against GT.
