Rajasthan Royals Prepare for IPL 2026 with New Leadership and High Hopes
Rajasthan Royals' New Era Begins
The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to kick off on March 26, 2026, with all ten franchises vying for the championship in a tournament that will span over two months. Among the teams to watch closely is the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who are making significant changes as they prepare for this lucrative league. Sanju Samson, who has captained RR since 2021 and has been with the team since 2013, has been traded to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In light of this, Riyan Parag has been appointed as the new captain for the upcoming season. This marks the first time Parag has addressed the situation regarding Samson following these developments. During a pre-tournament press conference, he remarked that Sanju Samson is as irreplaceable as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. While RR may seek a player with a similar skill set to fill his role, he emphasized that Samson cannot truly be replaced. 'We never considered replacing him (Sanju Samson). Can you replace Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli? No. In the same way, Sanju bhaiya is irreplaceable. We can attempt to find someone with comparable skills or ask another player to bat in his place, but he cannot be substituted. This year, our goal is to strategize better and secure victories, which we struggled to achieve in the last season,' Parag stated.
'High Expectations From Ravindra Jadeja'
In addition to the trade involving Sanju Samson, RR has acquired two prominent players from CSK. The standout among these is undoubtedly Ravindra Jadeja, who began his IPL journey with RR, playing for them in 2008 and 2009. Riyan Parag expressed that they have high hopes for the talented all-rounder. 'We have a fantastic mix of both spin and pace bowlers. Likewise, our batting order is well-balanced with both right-handed and left-handed batsmen. We hold high expectations for Ravindra Jadeja; he is an exceptional all-rounder,' Parag added.
