Rajasthan Royals' Strong Start in IPL 2026

Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 9: Shane Bond, the fast bowling coach for Rajasthan Royals (RR), has expressed his admiration for the team's pace attack following their impressive beginning to the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

During a pre-match press conference before RR's upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday, Bond remarked, “It’s been a fantastic start. Initiating an IPL season, especially after a challenging previous year, often brings a sense of nervous energy. The entire bowling unit, particularly the fast bowlers, has performed exceptionally well.”

Bond noted a growing sense of confidence within the team. “There’s a subtle confidence in our approach. When you have more victories than defeats in this league, it allows for a bit of relaxation. Off the field, it encourages players to be more open. We continue to focus on areas for improvement, which is beneficial when you’re 3-0 rather than the opposite,” he added.

He also emphasized the variety and depth of RR's bowling lineup. “We have a talented group of bowlers, each with unique skills, and there’s healthy competition within the squad, which is a great situation to be in,” Bond stated.

Heading into the match, RR boasts a perfect record this IPL season. They began with a victory over Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, followed by a nail-biting win against Gujarat Titans, and most recently, they triumphed over the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians.

Bond praised captain Riyan Parag for his adept management of the bowlers throughout the ongoing season. “The captain deserves significant credit. I’ve appreciated how Riyan Parag has handled the bowlers. We’ve discussed the importance of quick overs to allow him time for communication, especially as a new captain, to understand the bowlers and navigate pressure situations. There’s a wealth of data available to assist us,” he explained.

He highlighted the team's strategy of keeping game plans straightforward yet effective. “We aim for simplicity in our game plans. While our bowlers have different strengths, head coach Kumar Sangakkara emphasizes the need to assess conditions first before executing our plans,” Bond noted.

Reflecting on recent performances, he added, “You could see this in the Gujarat match, where we opted for full and fast deliveries, and similarly against Mumbai, where we implemented varied strategies. This adaptability has been one of our strengths so far. Winning is always enjoyable, but there’s still a long way to go in the tournament. If we maintain our current form, we will be difficult to beat.”

Captain Parag will be eager to secure a third consecutive win in Guwahati against RCB in their final home match at this venue.

After this match, the Royals will relocate to Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

On the other hand, RCB also enters this match with two victories in their campaign. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in their opening match and followed it up with a 43-run win over Chennai Super Kings.
