Match Abandoned Due to Heavy Rain

The highly awaited encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the historic Eden Gardens was unfortunately called off due to persistent rain on Monday. The match was officially declared abandoned at 10:58 PM IST, resulting in both teams earning a point each.

KKR's captain, Ajinkya Rahane, won the toss and opted to bat first, aiming to secure their initial points after suffering defeats in their previous two matches. However, the PBKS bowling attack, spearheaded by the impressive Xavier Bartlett, quickly put KKR under pressure.

Kolkata's costly overseas signing, Cameron Green, was dismissed for just 4 runs, followed closely by explosive opener Finn Allen, who managed only 6 runs, leaving KKR struggling at 16/2 within the first two overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, with 7 runs, joined Rahane, who scored 8, to push the score to 25/2 after 3.4 overs before the rain began.

The light drizzle soon escalated into a heavy downpour.

Although the rain ceased around 10:30 PM, the ground staff worked diligently to prepare the field for a potential five-over match. Unfortunately, the waterlogged pitch made it impossible to continue, leading to the captains of both teams shaking hands at 10:58 PM.

Despite sharing points, PBKS now leads the IPL 2026 points table with five points from three matches, while KKR sits in eighth place with just one point from three games.

Kolkata Knight Riders will aim for their first IPL victory on Thursday against Lucknow Super Giants, while Punjab Kings will head back to Mullanpur to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11.
