Punjab Kings Continue Unbeaten Streak

Mullanpur (Punjab) [India], April 19: After securing a victory against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer praised the impressive partnership between emerging players Priyansh Arya and Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly. He emphasized the significance of allowing young talents to freely express their skills on the field.

PBKS has maintained an unbeaten record in the tournament, marking a historic achievement as the first team to remain undefeated in their first six matches of an IPL season. The duo of Priyansh (93 runs) and Connolly (86 runs) showcased a remarkable 182-run partnership, filled with explosive sixes and powerful hitting.

During the post-match interview, Iyer remarked on their partnership, stating, "An exceptional partnership, with some truly jaw-dropping shots. Their ability to hit fast bowlers off the back foot was impressive. Their composure during the middle overs was outstanding."

Iyer also mentioned a friendly competition in six-hitting between himself and the two youngsters, with his bat as the prize.

"When players are allowed to be themselves, they tend to perform better. That’s our philosophy. I don’t dictate how they should play; they have their own styles. Ricky (Ponting, the head coach) provides motivation before the match, and I contribute as needed, allowing the boys to shine," he added.

Regarding the bowling performance, Iyer noted, "Most of our bowlers are seasoned international players. We have strategies for specific batters, and execution is key. They must avoid complacency."

Currently, PBKS leads the points table with five wins and one no-result, accumulating 11 points. In contrast, LSG sits in eighth place with two wins and four losses. PBKS scored an impressive 254/7, bolstered by Priyansh's 93 off 37 balls (including four boundaries and nine sixes) and Connolly's 87 off 46 balls (featuring eight fours and seven sixes). LSG had some bright moments, including a 61-run opening partnership between Ayush Badoni (35 off 21 balls with five fours and a six) and Mitchell Marsh (40 off 28 balls with three fours and two sixes), along with a counter-attack from Rishabh Pant (43 off 23 balls with one four and four sixes), but it ultimately fell short.
