Punjab Kings' Strong Performance in IPL 2026
Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 14: A remarkable innings of 57 runs from Prabhsimran Singh, along with significant contributions from the lower order, enabled Punjab Kings (PBKS) to post a formidable total of 200 runs for 8 wickets against the Mumbai Indians (MI) during their IPL 2026 match at the HPCA Stadium on Thursday.
After being invited to bat first, PBKS started steadily, reaching 16 runs without loss in the initial two overs. By the end of the fourth over, they had advanced to 31 runs, with openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh employing a careful yet effective strategy to keep the scoreboard ticking.
In the fifth over, Prabhsimran accelerated the innings, hitting four boundaries off pacer Shardul Thakur. However, the opening partnership of over 50 runs came to an end in the sixth over when Deepak Chahar dismissed Priyansh for 22 runs off 17 balls. PBKS concluded the power play at 55 for 1.
With his score of 22, Priyansh Arya became the second uncapped Indian player to achieve over 350 runs in each of his first two IPL seasons, having scored 475 runs in 2025 and 357* in 2026, joining Ambati Rayudu, who had 356 runs in 2010 and 395 in 2011.
Additionally, Priyansh and Prabhsimran made history as the first uncapped duo to surpass 1000 partnership runs in IPL when their score reached 24.
After Priyansh's exit, Cooper Connolly and Prabhsimran maintained the momentum with effective strike rotation and well-placed boundaries, bringing PBKS to 89 for 1 at the halfway mark.
Prabhsimran reached his second half-century of the season against MI in the 11th over, achieving the milestone with a six. Unfortunately, his innings ended shortly after when Shardul Thakur claimed his wicket.
Prabhsimran's innings consisted of 57 runs off 32 balls. He became the third uncapped Indian player, following Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma, to accumulate over 400 runs in multiple IPL seasons.
However, PBKS faced another setback as Shardul struck again, clean bowling captain Shreyas Iyer for just four runs, leaving the team at 111 for 3.
Further troubles arose when Raj Bawa dismissed Connolly for 21 runs on the third ball of the 13th over. The pressure intensified as Shardul took another wicket, sending Suryansh Shedge back for 8 runs, leaving PBKS struggling at 128 for 5.
The wickets continued to fall as Corbin Bosch trapped Shashank Singh lbw for just 2 runs, further diminishing PBKS's innings as they slipped to 135 for 6.
After the 16th over, PBKS stood at 140 for 6. Shardul secured his fourth wicket by clean bowling Marco Jansen for only two runs during the second ball of the 17th over.
In the 18th over, Chahar dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai, who played a brilliant cameo of 38 runs off 17 balls, helping the hosts reach 166 for 8.
In the final moments, Vishnu Vinod (15*) and Xavier Bartlett (18*) propelled PBKS past the 200-run mark, concluding their innings at 200 for 8 in 20 overs.
For Mumbai, Shardul (4 for 39), Chahar (2 for 36), Bosch (1 for 42), and Raj Bawa (1 for 11) were the key wicket-takers.
