Punjab Kings' Dominant Batting Performance

Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 11: In a thrilling IPL encounter at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) showcased an impressive batting display, setting a daunting target of 211 runs against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday evening.

After being invited to bat first, PBKS started explosively, with openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya scoring 22 runs off Mitchell Starc in the opening over.

This achievement marked the highest first-over score for PBKS in IPL history, surpassing their previous record of 21 runs against the Mumbai Indians earlier this season at Wankhede.

Additionally, the 22 runs conceded by Delhi Capitals in the first over became the second-highest in IPL history, only behind their 23 runs given up against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in 2024.

The momentum continued as Punjab reached 50 runs in just 2.4 overs, marking the fastest fifty recorded by PBKS in the tournament. By the end of the fourth over, they stood at 59 without loss.

Priyansh achieved his fifth half-century of the season in the fifth over, reaching the milestone in a mere 24 balls, maintaining the aggressive pace of the innings.

At the conclusion of the power play, the Kings were comfortably positioned at 72 runs without losing a wicket.

However, the partnership was broken in the seventh over when Mukesh Kumar dismissed Prabhsimran for 18 runs, ending their 78-run opening stand.

Madhav Tiwari then took the wicket of the well-set Priyansh, who scored 56 off 33 balls, leaving Punjab at 97/2. Despite this setback, they quickly reached the 100-run mark, finishing the 10th over at 107/2.

Captain Shreyas Iyer and Cooper Connolly stabilized the innings, guiding the team to 149/2 by the end of the 15th over, with Iyer leading the scoring.

In the 18th over, Shreyas reached his 32nd IPL half-century off just 32 balls. However, Madhav struck again, dismissing Connolly for 38 runs, leaving the Kings at 187/3.

Mitchell Starc made a late impact in the 19th over, taking two wickets in quick succession, dismissing Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh.

Despite the late wickets, Suryansh Shedge countered with a quick 16 runs off four balls, helping Punjab surpass the 200-run mark. Iyer finished unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, while Shedge contributed a swift 21*, leading PBKS to a total of 210/5 in their 20 overs.

For Delhi, Madhav (2/40) and Starc (2/57) were the standout bowlers.
