Punjab Kings Continue Winning Streak

Mullanpur (Punjab) [India] - April 11: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) celebrated their flawless start to the IPL 2026 season with an exhilarating six-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

After opting to bowl first following the toss, the Kings faced a fierce challenge from the Hyderabad team, which raced to 120 runs without losing a wicket in just eight overs.

However, the Kings' bowlers made a remarkable recovery, limiting SRH to a total of 219 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply, Punjab's batting lineup displayed their prowess, with openers Priyansh Arya (57 runs off 20 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (51 runs off 25 balls) giving a rapid start, as noted in a release.

Captain Shreyas Iyer showcased his finishing skills, scoring an unbeaten 69 runs off 33 balls, guiding the team to a total of 223 runs for four wickets in just 18.5 overs.

This victory underscored the team's resilience and composure under pressure. After the match, Prabhsimran Singh attributed their success to the team's mental fortitude in managing the high-scoring encounter.

“In a big chase, capitalizing on the powerplay is crucial. At one point, it seemed they could reach 250 runs or more, but our bowlers made an excellent comeback. We have successfully chased in all three matches so far, and the quicker we adjust to the conditions, the better our performance will be,” Prabhsimran stated.

He also commended the strong chemistry within the batting group. “Priyansh is in great form, and we enjoy playing together. Clear communication from the captain and coach is vital; we motivate each other, which reflects on the field during these significant chases,” he added.

A pivotal moment in the match occurred when the captain brought Shashank Singh into the bowling attack. This strategic move paid off as Shashank (2 wickets for 20 runs) dismissed both Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in the same over, halting SRH's momentum.

“Our captain introduced Shashank because he has previously dismissed Abhishek. Getting both him and Head out in the same over brought us back into contention. It was a brilliant strategy that worked perfectly for us today,” Prabhsimran explained.

He concluded by emphasizing the fearless culture fostered by the coaching staff. “We have complete clarity and support. With that, we can play aggressive cricket without the fear of getting out, allowing us to play freely,” he remarked.

The Punjab Kings are set to face the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16, 2026.
