Punjab Kings Prepare for Home Leg of IPL 2025

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India] - April 4: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are set to kick off their home leg in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a match against the Rajasthan Royals this Saturday.

Prior to their inaugural home game at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, the team's spin bowling coach, Sunil Joshi, held a press conference to discuss the team's atmosphere and preparations.

Joshi noted that the players have developed strong bonds, which has fostered a positive environment in the dressing room.

He emphasized the distinct atmosphere this season, stating, "We have a robust team spirit and enthusiasm among the players. Every team aims for victory, so we are focused on thorough preparation, creating a supportive environment, and keeping the players motivated. This season, the dressing room feels entirely different with our players."

"I can't speak for other teams, but our squad has had well-structured training camps. This has resulted in our domestic and international players being in excellent form. The team environment has significantly improved compared to previous years. It's encouraging to see players in great shape and high spirits. Our captain is young and optimistic, alongside head coach Ricky Ponting, which is exactly what our players need," he added.

Joshi also expressed high expectations for Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who took one wicket in each of the last two matches, highlighting his importance to the team's spin bowling strategy.

"Maxwell is crucial for us in terms of spin bowling. Each venue has its unique characteristics, and he is well aware of them. He has performed well for us in the last two matches. Given his experience, I am confident he will excel in our home games," he remarked.

He further discussed the team's form, noting that their performance in the last two matches indicates readiness for the demanding IPL season. Joshi pointed out that the challenges of home and away conditions diminish when players are performing well, which is vital for any team's success.

"When your squad of 16 players is performing admirably, with 8 bowling options and 9 batting options, you don't have to worry. It doesn't matter if you're playing at home or away. When the team is in good form, the focus should be on priorities and the players' needs. We have effectively channeled that focus," Joshi concluded.

The Punjab Kings will face the Rajasthan Royals on April 5 at 7:30 PM, followed by another home match against the Chennai Super Kings on April 9.
