Cummins' Comeback and SRH's Victory

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - April 26: After leading his team to victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins made a light-hearted comment about the challenges bowlers face in T20 cricket today. He also praised Ishan Kishan for his effective leadership of the young pace attack during Cummins' absence as the stand-in captain.

Cummins' return was a positive development for SRH, who climbed to third place in the points table following a five-wicket triumph over RR at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. Despite the bowlers facing a tough time against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel, strong performances from Ishan and Abhishek propelled the team to victory.

Reflecting on his comeback during the post-match presentation, Cummins expressed, “I’m really pleased with the win. You never know how your first game back will go, but the preparations were solid.”

In a match where a staggering 229 runs were chased down at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Cummins humorously remarked on the current state of bowling in T20s, stating, “I’m not sure. We might need to focus more on our batting.”

He commended the young Indian bowlers, including Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussain, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, for stepping up in his absence under Kishan's guidance, saying, “They have been fantastic. Ishan managed them excellently. We also have Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, who have started the season well. Our dugout is filled with talented bowlers, and the youngsters have been impressive. They executed their plans effectively.”

In closing, Cummins praised his team's batting lineup, particularly highlighting Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, stating, “We got off to a great start in the powerplay, maintaining a run rate of 10 runs per over. Abhishek, Ishan, and the others scored quickly. We have a calm and confident group.”

After SRH chose to bowl first, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (103 runs off 37 balls, including five fours and 12 sixes) and Dhruv Jurel (51 runs off 35 balls, with eight fours and a six) formed a formidable partnership, contributing to a total of 228/6 for RR. A late cameo from Donovan Ferreira (33 runs off 13 balls, with three fours and three sixes) bolstered their score.

Eshan Malinga was the standout bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 38 runs, while Cummins, Hinge, Hussain, and Reddy each claimed a wicket, although Sakib conceded 62 runs in his spell.

During the chase, after the early exit of Travis Head (6), a significant partnership of 132 runs between Abhishek Sharma (57 runs off 29 balls, with 11 fours and a six) and Ishan Kishan (74 runs off 31 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes), along with contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (29 runs off 24 balls, with three fours and a six) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (36 runs off 18 balls, with two fours and three sixes), led SRH to a five-wicket victory with nine balls remaining.

With this win, SRH has moved up to third place with five victories and three losses, totaling 10 points, while RR sits in fourth place with the same record but a lower net run rate.
