Australian Stars Return to IPL Action

New Delhi, May 13: Pat Cummins and Travis Head, the Australian cricket duo, are anticipated to rejoin the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume on May 17, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.

Last week, the IPL faced suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, casting doubt on the tournament's future. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has since confirmed that the league will restart this Saturday in Bengaluru.

On Tuesday morning, both Cummins and Head were included in Australia's squad for the World Test Championship final against South Africa, which is scheduled to begin on June 11. Their participation was uncertain, especially since SRH has already been eliminated from playoff contention.

As per reports, both players have communicated their intention to return to India to the SRH management. Cummins' manager, Neil Maxwell, stated that the Australian Test captain is eager to head back.

“Pat feels a sense of duty as the franchise captain and is planning to return,” Maxwell mentioned in a statement to a media channel.

Ben Oliver, Cricket Australia’s head of national teams, has assured that the board will support players in making their decisions regarding their return to India in the coming days.

Currently, there is no confirmation regarding the return of other overseas players like Heinrich Klaasen, Eshan Malinga, Kamindu Mendis, and Wiaan Mulder, with Mulder being named in South Africa's squad for the WTC final.

After finishing as runners-up last year, SRH has struggled in the 2025 season, with their batting lineup, typically known for its explosive hitting, failing to perform consistently, except for their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals.

With only three victories out of 11 matches, SRH is positioned eighth in the points table. They will wrap up their season with three away games against LSG on May 19 in Lucknow, RCB on May 23 in Bengaluru, and KKR on May 25 in Delhi.
