Pakistan Super League to Compete with IPL Again in 2027

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for its 12th edition, scheduled from March 18 to May 2, 2027, coinciding with the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the third consecutive year. Originally held in February and March, the PSL has shifted to an April-May window to avoid clashes with major ICC events. Despite discussions about moving the tournament to January-February, logistical challenges and winter conditions in Punjab led to the decision to maintain the current schedule. The PCB has yet to announce the venues for the upcoming season, which has traditionally included Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. PSL and IPL Clash Continues

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to face off against the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the third year in a row, with its 12th season scheduled from March 18 to May 2, 2027, according to reports from Cricinfo.

Historically, the PSL took place in February and March from its inception in 2016 until 2024. However, starting in 2025, the tournament was moved to the April-May timeframe to avoid conflicts with ICC events, such as the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

During a recent governing council meeting, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL franchises explored the option of shifting the 12th season to January-February. This suggestion arose after Walee Technologies, which holds the league's media rights until 2029 and owns one of the two new franchises, Rawalpindiz, expressed concerns about the limited broadcasting revenue from the current schedule.

Ultimately, the January-February timeframe was found to be logistically challenging, as Punjab—home to three of the PSL's four main venues, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi—experiences severe winter conditions during these months, with heavy fog often impacting visibility.

Additionally, this scheduling would coincide with Ramadan, although a similar situation was managed during the 2024 season.

Cricinfo noted that the PCB's media announcement did not specify the venues for the upcoming season. Since the tournament returned entirely to Pakistan in 2020, it has primarily been held in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, having previously been hosted or co-hosted by the UAE.

Last year, the PCB introduced Faisalabad and Peshawar as new venues. However, PSL 11 was limited to matches in Lahore and Karachi due to government fuel conservation measures amid the West Asia crisis, with all games, except the final, played without spectators.
