Minister's Arrival in Costa Rica

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that this visit signifies India's increasing involvement with Central America and the Caribbean.

San Jose, May 8: Pabitra Margherita, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, has landed in San Jose, Costa Rica, to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Laura Virginia Fernandez Delgado. This visit marks the beginning of a diplomatic journey across Central America and the Caribbean aimed at enhancing India's bilateral and developmental collaborations.


The Indian Embassy in Costa Rica shared on social media: “Welcome to San Jose, Costa Rica. Ambassador Dr. Sumit Seth greeted Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, upon his arrival. Minister Margherita will represent India at the inauguration of Costa Rica's new President, H.E. Ms. Laura Virginia Fernandez Delgado.”


Margherita also posted on social media: “Pura Vida Costa Rica. I have arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica. I will represent PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Costa Rica, H.E. Ms. Laura Virginia Fernandez Delgado. Additionally, I will engage with various dignitaries, business leaders, and members of the Indian community during my visit.”


During the inauguration, he is anticipated to meet with senior officials from Costa Rica, discussing the full range of bilateral relations and exploring avenues to enhance cooperation between India and Costa Rica.


The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this visit underscores India's expanding engagement with Central America and the Caribbean through political dialogue, development partnerships, and connections between people.


Following his time in Costa Rica, Margherita will head to Honduras, where he plans to meet with key government officials, including the Foreign Minister, to assess the breadth of bilateral cooperation.


In Belize, he will engage with local officials and visit locations associated with India's development assistance projects, showcasing India's commitment to grassroots development support.


Concluding his tour in Dominica, the Minister of State is expected to meet with the nation's leadership, evaluate bilateral relations, visit India-supported project sites, and connect with members of the Indian diaspora. This will mark the first ministerial visit from India to Dominica since October 2018.


This visit follows his recent trip to Vanuatu and Tuvalu from April 22–25, where he participated in development cooperation initiatives, including providing assistance for the preservation of cultural heritage sites under India's Quick Impact Project (QIP) initiative.
