Nitish Rana Faces Penalty for Dispute with Umpire
Delhi Capitals' batsman Nitish Rana has been penalized 25% of his match fee following a heated exchange with the fourth umpire during an Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Chennai Super Kings.
The confrontation took place in the 19th over when the umpire refused Tristan Stubbs' request to swap his damp gloves, which led to a significant disagreement. Stubbs sought to change his gloves due to the oppressive humidity in Chennai on Saturday.
After being dismissed, an upset Rana approached the fourth umpire, resulting in him receiving a demerit point as well.
According to an IPL statement, "Nitish Rana, batter for Delhi Capitals, has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also received one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players."
The statement further noted, "Rana was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses the use of audible obscenities during a match."
Rana acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the penalty imposed by the Match Referee.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Penalized for Slow Over-Rate
Chennai Super Kings' captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined Rs 12 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals.
CSK secured their first victory of the IPL season with a 23-run win over Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
The IPL media advisory stated, "Since this was the first offence of the season for his team under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate violations, Gaikwad was fined INR 12 lakhs."
Next, CSK will compete against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
