Mumbai Indians Secure Victory Against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians Triumph Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 18: Following their recent victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton of the Mumbai Indians (MI) expressed his desire for a standout performance in the tournament.
Will Jacks played a pivotal role by taking two key wickets and scoring a brisk 36 runs, leading MI to a four-wicket win at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
During the post-match presentation, Rickelton reflected on his innings of 31 runs off 23 balls, stating, "I wouldn’t say 30 runs is excessive, but it’s nice to contribute. I’m still eager for a significant score. The pitch wasn’t the easiest tonight, but we adapted well with the ball and I’m pleased we secured the win."
The 28-year-old also discussed his transition from South Africa and how he is adjusting to the Indian playing conditions.
"I have a solid foundation and some knowledge from being around such a talented group. It’s about refining the small aspects of my game. There are things I learned tonight that I need to discuss with the right players. It’s a continuous journey. If I can keep improving, it will benefit me in the long run. Batting second definitely helped us; that’s the essence of T20 cricket," he added.
Rickelton shared his thoughts on being part of the Mumbai Indians in this 18th edition of the lucrative league.
"It’s challenging to determine what constitutes a good score and to commit to it. We have experienced players like Booms, Hardik, Sky, and Boulty. The intelligence was evident today with the ball, although I believe we could have restricted them to a lower total. The atmosphere is quite loud; it’s a bit overwhelming for me, but I’m finding my rhythm. I’m really enjoying it. It’s a fantastic team to play for and a wonderful place," the left-handed batter concluded.
In the match, MI won the toss and chose to field first. Abhishek Sharma scored 40 runs off 28 balls, and Head contributed 28 runs off 29 balls, forming a 59-run partnership. However, the team struggled to maintain a high run rate, despite Heinrich Klaasen’s efforts, who scored 37 runs off 28 balls.
SRH finished their innings at 162/5 in 20 overs, with Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) being the standout bowlers for MI, led by Hardik Pandya.
During the chase, MI's top order made significant contributions, with Rohit Sharma scoring 26 runs off 16 balls and Ryan Rickelton adding 31 runs off 23 balls, helping MI reach 69/2. A crucial 52-run partnership between Will Jacks (36 runs off 26 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs off 15 balls) brought MI close to victory, although SRH bowlers fought back. Tilak Varma (21* off 17 balls) and Mitchell Santner (0*) guided MI to a four-wicket win with 11 balls remaining.
For SRH, Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) delivered commendable performances, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
With this victory, MI climbed to seventh place with three wins and four losses, totaling six points, while SRH sits at ninth with two wins and five losses, accumulating just four points.
