Mumbai Indians Triumph Over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 18: In a thrilling encounter at Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians (MI) achieved their third victory of the IPL 2025 season by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets. Chasing a target of 163 runs, MI successfully completed their innings in 18.1 overs, marking SRH's fifth loss of the season.

This win places Mumbai in seventh position on the points table, while Hyderabad finds themselves in ninth.

Following the match, SRH captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that his team struggled with the bat on a challenging pitch. He stated, “It wasn’t the easiest of wickets. 160 runs felt a bit short. The wicket was tricky, and their bowlers restricted many of our scoring opportunities.”

Cummins, who led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 3/26, expressed that while the team performed well with the ball, they needed to improve their batting performance. “I believed we had everything covered. Scoring 160 made us feel a bit short, but I thought we gave it a solid effort with the ball,” he remarked.

He further added, “We knew we needed wickets. We had several options for death bowling, including Eshan (Malinga), Harshal (Patel), and myself. We just needed an over or two, so we turned to the leg spinner (Rahul Chahar).”

Cummins concluded, “To reach the finals, we must perform well away from home, but unfortunately, we haven’t clicked yet.”

In the match, MI won the toss and chose to field first. Abhishek Sharma (40 runs off 28 balls, including seven fours) and Head (28 runs off 29 balls, with three fours) formed a solid 59-run partnership. However, the team struggled to maintain a high run rate, despite contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (37 runs off 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes). SRH finished their innings at 162/5 in 20 overs, with Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) being the standout bowlers.

During the chase, MI's top order made significant contributions, with Rohit Sharma (26 runs off 16 balls, including three sixes) and Ryan Rickelton (31 runs off 23 balls, with five fours) helping MI reach 69/2 before their dismissals. A crucial 52-run partnership between Will Jacks (36 runs off 26 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 runs off 15 balls, with two fours and two sixes) brought MI close to victory. Despite a late fight from SRH bowlers, Tilak Varma (21* runs off 17 balls, with one four) and Mitchell Santner (0*) guided MI to a four-wicket win with 11 balls remaining.

Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) delivered commendable performances for SRH, but it ultimately fell short.
