Mumbai Indians Coach Praises Jasprit Bumrah's Work Ethic Ahead of IPL Clash
Bumrah's Evolution Highlighted by MI's Bowling Coach
Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 6: Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach for Mumbai Indians (MI), has lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding work ethic and significant development as a bowler and person over the years.
In a pre-match press conference prior to their IPL 2026 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mhambrey reflected on Bumrah's journey from a young talent to a global cricketing icon.
“One key takeaway from Bumrah is his incredible work ethic. He meticulously tracks everything he practices in the nets, ensuring he applies it during matches. Over the past few years with the Indian team, he has transformed into an exceptional bowler and an even better individual, which is truly remarkable,” stated the MI bowling coach.
Mhambrey also shared insights into MI's bowling strategy for their initial matches and how he contributes to planning for various scenarios.
“As a bowling unit, we consistently discuss strategies for taking wickets in the middle overs, executing our plans, maintaining pressure on the opposition, and exploiting their strengths and weaknesses,” he explained.
He elaborated on the differences in pitch conditions, noting, “The surfaces we play on vary significantly. In Mumbai, we have red soil pitches that offer good bounce due to the grass, allowing for effective square cuts and pull shots. Conversely, black soil pitches in Delhi provide less bounce, requiring us to target different areas.”
Discussing the younger players like Ashwani Kumar and Mohammad Izhar, Mhambrey emphasized MI's innovative bowling strategies each season. “Credit goes to our scouts who identify young talent and assess their skills. I often reflect on my own early career experiences, considering how I managed pressure and setbacks. This perspective aids in fostering meaningful conversations with them. Spending quality time with each player helps me understand their character and the type of guidance they seek,” he added.
When asked about the roles of the bowling coaches, including Malinga, Mhambrey stated, “There is no distinction between our roles. We share a common goal and operate like two sides of the same coin. Our relationship is built on trust, understanding, and respect, with no competition between us as we work towards the team's success.”
