Expansion of the T20 Mumbai League

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 10: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the opening of bids for a new franchise in the esteemed T20 Mumbai League, which will increase the league to nine teams.


This new team will represent the Navi Mumbai area, enhancing the league's outreach and offering more opportunities for cricketers from Mumbai and its neighboring regions, as stated in a recent announcement.


This initiative follows the successful fourth season of the league, which took place in June and garnered significant fan engagement and competitive matches, solidifying the league's status as one of India's premier franchise-based domestic T20 tournaments.


Interested bidders can collect the bid documents from the MCA office located at the Cricket Centre, Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate, Mumbai, from August 10 to August 25, 2026, during the hours of 11 am to 6 pm.


To obtain the bid documents, a non-refundable fee of Rs 2.5 lakh is required, payable via Demand Draft in favor of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Alternatively, payments can be made through bank transfer to the account detailed in the tender notice available on the MCA's official website.


In other news, the MSC Maratha Royals successfully defended their title in the Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai League, narrowly defeating ARCS Andheri by eight runs in a thrilling final held at Wankhede Stadium in June.


Additionally, OBO Mumbai Falcons showcased an impressive all-round performance to win the inaugural Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai Women’s League title, overcoming Aakash Tigers MWS by 25 runs.


The men's league achieved its highest television reach ever, attracting over 65 million viewers. There was a 61% increase in television watch time, while digital views on JioHotstar surged by 66% compared to the previous season, indicating the league's rising popularity across various platforms.


The 2026 season also marked a significant milestone with the successful launch of the Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai Women’s League, highlighting the MCA's dedication to enhancing the women's cricket framework by providing more opportunities for emerging talent and establishing a robust pathway for future cricketers.
