Mukul Choudhary's Stellar Performance Leads Lucknow Super Giants to Victory Over KKR
Mukul Choudhary Reflects on His Journey After Match-Winning Performance
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 10: In a thrilling IPL 2026 encounter at Eden Gardens, Mukul Choudhary of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) shared insights into his cricketing journey after playing a crucial role in his team's narrow three-wicket victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Choudhary, who earned the Player of the Match title for his unbeaten 54 runs, discussed the challenges he faced early in his career.
“Before my father got married, he dreamed of having a son who would play cricket. Our financial situation was tough initially. I started playing cricket around the age of 12 or 13. There weren't many academies in Jhunjhunu, so I eventually moved to Jaipur,” he recounted.
He emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing dynamics of the game, stating, “I recognized the growth of T20 cricket, which prompted me to relocate to Gurgaon (now Gurugram) for a few months.”
Choudhary recalled a pivotal moment in his career, saying, “My father often mentions an Under-19 match against Uttar Pradesh. It was a low-scoring game, but I managed to score runs, and that’s when he realized I had the potential to succeed.”
When discussing how he copes with pressure during critical moments, he expressed his perspective: “Pressure is a constant, but I view it as an opportunity. I believe that if I can stay until the end, I can help my team win.”
Reflecting on the final moments of the match, he noted, “I was confident that one ball would come into my hitting zone, and I just needed to hit one six.” He described his first six of the match as particularly memorable.
“I’ve always had a knack for hitting. If the ball is in my area, I go for it,” he added, showcasing his natural ability as a power hitter.
In the match, the Lucknow Super Giants triumphed over the Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets in a nail-biting finish, successfully chasing down a target of 182 runs. Key contributions came from Ayush Badoni (54) and Mukul Choudhary (54*), with Choudhary's explosive batting sealing the victory in the final over.
According to CricViz, the unbeaten 54-run partnership between Mukul Choudhary and Avesh Khan marked the highest for the 8th wicket or lower in a successful IPL chase.
In this remarkable effort, Mukul scored 52 of those runs, while Avesh contributed with 1*(3) at the other end.
Earlier in the match, KKR set a target of 181/4, bolstered by performances from Ajinkya Rahane (41), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (45), and a late surge from Rovman Powell and Cameron Green. Despite the KKR bowlers' tight spells, LSG maintained their composure to secure a dramatic win.
