Dhoni Acknowledges Career's Twilight Phase

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, acknowledges that he is nearing the end of his IPL journey, stating, “there is no escaping the fact.” However, he emphasizes that his decision regarding the future will hinge on how his body copes with the demands of the next six to eight months.

The former Indian cricket team captain is greeted by enthusiastic fans in yellow at every match, fully aware of their emotional investment and desire to witness his final performance. “That is the love and affection I have received throughout my career. Many fans are uncertain about when my last game will be, so they want to come and watch me play,” Dhoni remarked following CSK's victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.

After undergoing knee surgery in 2023, Dhoni has faced ongoing fitness challenges. CSK's head coach, Stephen Fleming, recently noted that the seasoned player “can’t bat 10 overs running full stick.” This has fueled speculation that this season might be his last in the league.

The charismatic wicketkeeper-batter is conscious of his current standing in his illustrious career but insists that he will take time to evaluate his fitness before making any decisions. “There is no escaping the fact that I am in the last phase of my career. Once this IPL concludes, I need to put in hard work for another 6-8 months to determine if my body can handle the pressure,” he stated.
