Mohammed Shami Sets Unfortunate Record in IPL Match Against Punjab Kings
Historic Low for Shami in IPL
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 12: In a disheartening turn of events, Mohammed Shami, the seasoned pace bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), recorded the worst bowling figures by an Indian in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, marking the second-worst overall.
This unfortunate milestone occurred during SRH's match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Uppal Stadium, their home ground.
Shami's performance saw him concede a staggering 75 runs in just four overs without claiming a single wicket. The young opening duo of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya took full advantage, scoring 23 runs in the second over and 27 runs in the final over, which included four consecutive sixes hit by Marcus Stoinis.
Throughout the current season, Shami has played six matches, taking five wickets with an average of 46.60 and an economy rate of 11.09, with his best figures being 2/28.
The record for the most expensive bowling figures in IPL history belongs to Jofra Archer of Rajasthan Royals (RR), who went wicketless while conceding 76 runs in four overs against SRH.
In the match, PBKS won the toss and opted to bat first. A solid partnership of 66 runs between Priyansh Arya (36 runs off 13 balls, including two fours and four sixes) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 runs off 23 balls, with seven fours and a six) set a strong foundation for PBKS. Captain Shreyas Iyer contributed significantly with a half-century, scoring 82 runs off 36 balls, featuring six fours and six sixes, while Marcus Stoinis added a quick 34 runs off 11 balls, including a four and four sixes, leading PBKS to a total of 245/6 in their 20 overs.
For SRH, Harshal Patel (4/42) and Eshan Malinga (2/45) were the standout bowlers.
Now, PBKS aims to defend their total of 246 runs to secure their fourth victory in the tournament.
